about

Stagnancy: Three Tales of Adam (December 15th, 2012):
After many computer crashes and replacements, Stagnancy features 16 songs with many concepts. The music has diverted drastically from the first album, being much more aggressive and bluesy in nature throughout the album, and with the inclusion of horn and string arrangements.

The songs are arranged in three 'Movements' based around a character named "Adam Priori", heard from only in the interlude tracks, whose thoughts are explored through the lyrics. In this coming of age and life story, the ending is left for the listener to figure out their own life philosophy.
Track list:
1. Introduction: A Young Man (First Movement)
2. The Arrival
3. Warm the Witch's Heart
4. Among the Many Grains of Sand
5. Idle Waves
6. Intermission: An Old Man (Second Movement)
7. Words to the Why's
8. Baroque in Thought
9. Walls of White
10. Minor Tragedy Blues
11. Interruption: A Middle Man (Third Movement)
12. A Tale for Tears
13. Fates of Fancy
14. Catalyst
15. These Hands (resolve to the 5th)

Track Name: The Arrival
Knocking in your door, what am I waiting for?
Footsteps on your floor, I'm waiting to see your smile once again.
The weather in my head is from all the things you said.
No smile tonight, instead, again I tell you that I cannot pretend.
I never say what I want to say.

It all started as always with a greeting. We then fumbled for the words that we were seeking. But nothing came with time, too many words were banned. With lies behind our eyes and shaking hands on the outside:

Keep this distance, build these walls. Lock the doorways from the halls.
Block the spacing at your feet, close your eyes and you will see:
You're all alone.
Track Name: Warm the Witch's Heart
Are we faking the time of our lives so that everyone thinks that we are alive? Are we making this up as we all go along, keeping secrets from the ones we love?

You're proud to warm the witch's heat, but you don't know what for. Keep it up, keep it up, or run for the door. What a life to lead, to want so bad what you can't have, as she thinks to herself: You're mine.

You're still waiting for the call to hear her voice again, but what's it worth?
After all she's just mouthing to her friends. You're getting bitter, getting bitter, from all that's happened here. She'll bring you down with her, that much is clear.

You're proud to warm the witch's heat, but you don't know what for.
Keep it up, keep it up, or run for the door.
What a life to lead, to want so bad what you can't have, as she thinks to herself... ...you're mine.

You're stuck living in a place where to keep what you don't own,
you must lie to her face when you take her home.
As a friend I must say, you looked better yesterday,
make your move to replace before you fall from grace.
Track Name: Among the Many Grains of Sand
Here I lay on the ground. Here I'll stay until I hear the sound.
The words I say, you protest, So here I'll stay until I find rest.
But I'm only another who fell under your spell. I don't think you understand, it's blades like you that carve a man.

The story I will tell will not be one of holding on hope,
but rather a tale of short lived dreams by a man who's older than he seems.
When you're wise beyond your years what will you do when they catch back up with you?

There you go, here I stand among the many grains of sand.
Here I question what I've done, been running westward for the sun.
Even in my dreams, you're out of reach. I don't know where I've been or where I'll be.
How did I end up by the sea?

The story I will tell will not be one of holding on hope,
but rather a tale of short lived dreams by a man who's older than he seems.
When you're wise beyond your years what will you do when they catch back up with you?

(spoken)
Let me tell you a little story about the woman who stole my heart.
She came from below, and let me tell 'ya, yeah, she fit the part.
I said, “Baby, please don't hurt me, no, not this time.”
She said, “Baby, don't worry, you're mine.”

I try hard to remember your tender lips. But your skin has forgotten my fingertips. So keep your smile away from me, me and mine.
Like so many others before my time, you make singing easy with rhythm and rhyme. I know your kind, in your disguise.
Track Name: Idle Waves
Is it gonna' linger, keep me tied up on the edge?
Push me off into the sea with my feet above me.
But if I stay silent here, the world will keep on passing me by.

I put my steady motions out of sight and out of mind.
They're not welcome here, nor is this passion to rewind.
I'm pinned beneath this sea of purpose. So I open my eyes beneath the surface.

So put up all the fingers for the days that this will last.
After melodies this foundation is still intact.
And when our eyes meet again, we'll look back and share the stories of how it all began.
Track Name: Words to the Why's
When a wise man says you're done, turn off your flaming tongue.
Give all it is you've won to the wind. When a heart that's made of stone bares the name you've come to own, it will hold you in the ground with your sins.

I'm here to meet with a broken one held back by a father and tattered son.
So I'll try to make this matter in the end.

If that memory in your head can describe the book you've read, then everything it said was a lie. We're all too young to see past the words we choose to speak, until we realize that some day we'll die.

I'm here to meet with a broken one held back by a father and tattered son.
So I'll try to make this matter in the end.

All's well in the eyes that were given him. No tears for the hopes that could have been. To the one he's lost, his love, he sends.
Track Name: Baroque In Thought
Heart keeps melting, trouble breathing, angels sing... singing:
“Old man's young death, troubled vein breathes, full of regret.”
Heart keeps melting, trouble breathing, angels sing... singing:
“Old man's young death, fashioned vein breathes, full of regret.”
Track Name: Walls of White
Before I knew the world, before this heart had broken,
many men were here and many words were spoken.
But now I see, we all must learn to perfect our poker face so no one's reminded that we're in this place. So I ask:

Why must all the facts become so secret, shifting slowly in our minds to regret? The walls of white we've made up in our mind's eye are keeping us from reaching for the outside.

Look up at our moon, does it bring us what we need?
Being so far away, merely giving us room to breathe.
We keep adding to our makeup 'till there's no face left to be seen.
Pale skin, lungs full, closed eyes; where have we been?

Why must all the facts become so secret, shifting slowly in our minds to regret? The walls of white we've made up in our mind's eye are keeping us from reaching for the outside.

Build up these walls (build up these walls)
Play to pretend (play to pretend)
Shield both your eyes (block out your skies)
Make due with the cards you're dealt.
Track Name: Minor Tragedy Blues
Where there's a will, there's a way for my plans to go astray.
But all the days that we spent sleeping in the beds that we had made
wouldn't be forgotten for many days to come.
When you'd lay by my side and no one else would know.
Oh, the secrets we'd tell as your smile would grow.

All these minor tragedies. With time I began to see.
You'd never light my cigarette for me. But I wont give up so easily.

Winter left us brokenhearted with no answers.
I miss the scent of snow filled air brushing past our hair.
I've gone so long without your taste, it's keeping me in this place.
I'm going down, I'm going down while staring into space.

All these minor tragedies. With time I began to see.
You'd never light my cigarette for me. But I wont give up so easily.

Keep my head goin' 'round. In all of this I found: An inner battle with snakes that rattle, but leave me wanting more. So pull me closer, put your head on my shoulder, or please, dear, show me the door.
Track Name: A Tale for Tears
(denial)
Is this really happening? I have to be dreaming. I hold on tightly to all the words from you.

(anger)
Someone here must pay by the end of this day.
A branded debt upon the shoulders of man. I cannot stress enough, I want blood for blood.
Whether mine or every grain of sand.

(bartering)
Please come back to me. I'll give up everything. To hold you once more.
I'll find a way to even the score.

(depression)
I'm taking in the drink, hoping I will sink into the crystal waters where I reside. This cold goes to the bone in the heat of my home.
Hoping it reminds me of when you were by my side.

(acceptance)
Tossed by the sea, ink that bleeds, do I believe?
Tossed by the sea (pulled under)
Ink that bleeds (from water's plunder)
Do I believe (in better endings)
Destined to be (alone and wander)
My melody (will crash like thunder)
Do I believe (in souls ascending)
Track Name: Fates of Fancy
Oh God, I am trying to understand why I'm dying. So on and so forth, so honestly coarse. Help me understand what to do with this.

Fate has shown me it's faces. And always pulls ahead in these races. Beating me down and pushing me out. Put up all the fingers for the years this will last.

You are gone. Left us for some higher purpose, we're caught on the surface. And this song will reach out to meet you. I swear I will see to your stars at night.

I turn and wake with another. For how long will I hold her.
This fills the hole but I'm paying the toll. I've lost my grip on the things that I miss.

Oh my dear, I have hurt you. Although I said that I would treat you right.
For now you'll see that I'll let you be. I'm less of a man than I was before.

You are gone. Left us for some higher purpose, we're caught on the surface. And this song will reach out to meet you. I swear I will see to your stars at night.
Track Name: Catalyst
My rock needs a catalyst. My stock needs a catalyst.
My heart needs a catalyst. My hope needs a catalyst.
Track Name: These Hands (resolve to the 5th)
I'm falling down for the count, and making mends to ascend. I'm asking all of the noise to leave my head when I'm in bed. There was a joy once consumed, now just sand in my hands. I turn to those I once knew, but they've all made other plans.

We are nothing but uprooted trees keeping to ourselves. A walking forest, if you please, while ringing all our bells. Screaming here, a whisper there, our words are nothing but air in the eyes of those who don't... listen up:

Who am I to tell you now, here and so unwise. Aloft the tower of my brow I try to shrink in size. My every wish from every thought haunting everything I've wrought. Catch me drunken in my slumber; in the bed and doubled over.

I remember many moments ago, the day's first light through the window.
The sun beating down on us both, our hair in knots from the night before.
While gazing into your eyes and letting out my weighted sighs, I never wanted it to end, but here it comes right back again:

Here and now don't seem to care where we'll all end up. Here and now are quite the pair, each drinking half the cup. We try to see and understand what's becoming of our hands. They move in ways we never dreamed would be reflections of what we see.

These hands have a story, let'em tell you of the world they've made.
In their march for glory they've been searching all night and day.
These hands have a story, let'em tell you of the world they've made.
In their march for glory they've been searching through the wind and rain.
These hands have a story, let'em tell you of the world they've made.
